1. I took this photograph on September 11, 1999 — ten years ago today.

I was using my very first digital camera, an Agfa ePhoto 307, which had a max resolution of 640x480 (you’re practically looking at the full-res above), and a fixed internal memory of 2MB. That meant I got about 36 shots before it was full and needed to be downloaded (via serial cable) to my desktop. It retailed for $500. Today, my cell phone takes better photographs.

Erin and I were up in NYC for the Dave Matthews concert at Continental Airlines Arena (eventually released as Listener Supported).

Erin’s 21st birthday was a couple days away, and the trip was my birthday gift to her. We only had a few hours before the show, so we decided to hop aboard the Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty ferry. This was our first time in NYC together; we figured the ferry ride would let us get some nice, touristy skyline photos. It was an extemporaneous decision of unforeseen importance.
